Mission: We give grocery store gift cards to financially struggling college students.

Vision: We envision a world where all college students can access the food they need.

When researching the possibility of a free fridge or food pantry in my community of Avondale Estates, Georgia, it occurred to me that we already have plenty of well-stocked, giant food pantries: grocery stores! Instead of creating a food pantry, we are pooling our money, buying digital grocery store gift cards, and giving them to college students who need food. It’s a way to meet an immediate need with love, generosity, and solidarity.

We started in 2022, giving away three gift cards a month. By 2024, we were up to eight gift cards a month.

The Invisible Food Pantry isn’t just about the students who receive a grocery store gift card so they can buy the food they need and want. It’s about the great feeling the donor gets, knowing your act of kindness is making an impact on the student beyond the gift cards. They know someone cares about them, their goals, and their dreams.
